中新两国校长寄语

　　先贤曾有云：“读万卷书，行万里路”。古人以读书、行路实现其“出也天下、入也天下”的自我价值；

　　今人则认为读书和旅行都是满足人的求知欲望的最佳方式。对于孩子们尤其重要。

　　在当代教育背景下，国际理解教育是一项重要内容，强调既有传统文化的内涵，又容有其他民族的文明成果…….

　　当我们选择让孩子走出国门时，作为“亚洲四小龙”之一的新加坡当属首选之交流目的国。新加坡地处东南亚，经济、教育水平在亚洲处于领先位置。新加坡与中国一衣带水，同根同源，因此这里的教育汲取了中华传统文化的精髓，而作为英联邦国家，它又融入了现代教育理念和方法。尤其在语言教学方面，新加坡儿童自幼儿园开始生活在双语教学氛围中，即汉语和英语并行，让孩子从小就接受汉语和英语的熏陶。中、新两国学生进行的教育交流活动，让中国孩子亲身感受新加坡的学习氛围，会极大开阔孩子的视野，从而更能提高学习兴趣。

　　新加坡中华总商会企业管理学院海外校友会大连分会，自2004年7月开始组织中国、新加坡两国学生进行教育交流互访活动，每年两次，在长春和大连两地选拔优秀中、小学生赴新加坡进行为期7天的教育交流活动。两年来，已有超过500名中国中小学生参加了此项交流活动。今年校友会更是得到了新加坡旅游局和教育署的大力支持，特成立了辽宁中新国际教育文化交流有限公司来专门负责中新两国教育界的交流互访活动。

　　活动期间，孩子们零距离感受新加坡的双语教学；与新加坡中小学生自愿结成友好对子，与新加坡的孩子一起上学，亲身体验新加坡学生的学习生活；接受国际上先进的青少年激励培训；并组织孩子们参观新加坡著名的景点，增长学生的见识，提高学生的自治能力，提高了学生的综合素质……让孩子们健康成长，让孩子视野开阔，让孩子们见闻广博，让孩子们综合素质得到全面提升，……作为校长，我们更愿意为孩子们创造条件，帮助孩子们走出国门，走进新加坡，走向世界……

Expanding Opportunities for Learning and Building Friendships

It has been a privilege to be part of “Building Bridges”, the China-Singapore education exchange programme. This exchange programme has profound implications for students of both countries, in that it not only provides the opportunity for interaction, it also enhances the general aptitude of these students.

The students from Singapore has benefited tremendously from this exchange programme. Despite their Chinese roots, Singaporean students grow up in a westernised social environment. Hence from a cultural point of view, the programme provides a golden opportunity for them to be directly in touch with the Chinese culture, given China’s 5,000 years of long history and rich cultural heritage. This also stimulates their interest in learning the Chinese language.

From the economic viewpoint, with its booming economy, China is set to become a leader in the global economy. Moreover, the Singapore government has always value its ties with China. Its ministers often lead business teams to China in search of investment opportunities. In this regard, by helping to develop and foster friendships between the future leaders of both countries, the exchange programme can be seen as a great platform in facilitating future cultural and trade exchanges.

Due to Singapore’s prosperity, Singaporean children generally have ample opportunities to travel overseas. However, this exchange programme is a completely new experience. In this programme, they immerse themselves in the daily livelihood of ordinary Chinese people, thereby developing a personal and in-depth appreciation of China’s culture, as well as its living and learning environment. Furthermore, compared to Singapore’s tropical climate, traveling to China, where there are four seasons, as well as vast land area with plentiful natural resources, proved to be a real eye-opener for Singaporean children. In this regard, the trip was a great inspiration to learn and grow.

We are convinced that learning does not merely entail the pursuit of head knowledge. It is also vital to help our students develop their aptitude wholistically. At home, Singaporean children typically do not help much with household chores, hence the exchange programme not only provides them with the opportunity to hone their interpersonal skills, but also to learn self-discipline in a more comprehensive way.

This education exchange programme is extremely significant for China and Singapore, and bears on the young students’ development widely and profoundly. I believe the programme will play an important role in helping both countries mould their leaders of tomorrow. I sincerely hope that our students will be confident enough to leave their comfort zones, and cherish every opportunity to build bridges of friendship with others.
